The Superintendence of Urban Cleaning (SUC) was internationally recognized for its health security policy aimed at waste pickers. Through the Covid-19 Safety Protocol, the City of Belo Horizonte, together with waste picker cooperatives, offered online training on safety measures such as social distancing, use of protective and disinfection equipment in the streets, warehouses and homes of waste pickers.

As part of the 15th National Conference on Municipal Development Policy, Belo Horizonte was invited by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to participate, as a speaker, in a workshop to exchange good municipal practices in the management of the pandemic. In this series of events, SLU's health security policy was presented and selected as a good international reference practice.
