To face the new wave of Covid-19 cases in the capital, the Belo Horizonte City Hall also spared no effort in the hospital network. In January, 552 beds were opened in the SUS-BH [Public Health System] network, 68 of them in the ICU and 484 in the ward. In pediatrics alone, the Municipal Health Department opened 49 beds. The number of Covid beds, considering the SUS and supplementary networks, jumped from 667 on January 1 to 1,318 by January 31 – an increase of almost 98%. On January, 1st, 83 more beds were opened, 9 of which were adult ICU beds and another 11 pediatric beds, in addition to 40 adult Covid ward beds and 23 pediatric beds.
